Claude Duet Pricing

No add-on fee

Duet is included with eligible plans during the research preview.

Shared usage limits

It draws from the same allowance as Claude chat and Cowork.

Pro vs Max

$20 a month gets you in; Max buys headroom for heavy background work.

The short answer on Claude Duet pricing: there is no Claude Duet price. Anthropic does not charge anything extra for the agent during its research preview. If you are a US subscriber on Claude Pro or Max and you get an invite, Duet is included in what you already pay.

The longer answer is that Duet is not free in practice, because every morning brief, background check and big task draws on your plan's usage limits. This guide to Claude Duet pricing explains what the agent costs on each plan, how its usage is counted, and how to keep it from eating the allowance you need for everything else.

Claude Duet cost: included in your plan

Anthropic's product page and FAQ list no Duet-specific price. Access comes through the waitlist, and eligibility is tied to the plan you already have. So the real question behind Claude Duet pricing is which Claude plan you need, and how much of it Duet will use.

Max 5x$100Eligible, US only, by waitlist

Plan prices are Anthropic's published US prices as of October 2026; check claude.com/pricing before you upgrade, because consumer prices change from time to time.

No separate price

There is no Duet add-on, no per-task fee and no Duet-only subscription. You pay for Claude; Duet comes with it if you are eligible and invited.

Research preview terms

"Included during the preview" is the phrase to remember. Anthropic has not said whether the agent will stay included once the preview ends, so do not treat today's Claude Duet pricing as permanent.

Claude Duet on Pro vs Max

Claude Duet pricing is identical on both tiers: both unlock the same features. The difference is how much work you can hand off before you hit your limit.

Monthly price

Pro is $20 a month. Max comes in two sizes: Max 5x at $100 a month and Max 20x at $200 a month, named for roughly five and twenty times Pro's per-session usage. Max is billed monthly only.

Usage headroom

A proactive agent uses capacity even when you are not looking at it. Duet checks your connected accounts every few hours, and big tasks such as building a dashboard or a deck take more. On Pro, that background activity competes directly with your own chats. On Max, there is far more room before the two collide.

Who should pick which

  • Stay on Pro, the cheapest Claude Duet pricing option, if you want Duet mainly for a morning brief and a few handoffs a week, and you do not already run into Claude limits.
  • Consider Max 5x if you already hit Pro limits in chat or Cowork, or plan to have Duet watch several busy inboxes and business apps.
  • Max 20x only makes sense if Claude is a core work tool for you across chat, Cowork, Claude Code and Duet together.

How Claude Duet usage limits work

Anthropic's FAQ answer is short: Duet shares your plan's limits with the rest of Claude, and background checks and large tasks use more. That sentence is the heart of Claude Duet pricing, so here is what it means day to day.

Background checks count

The check-ins that power the morning brief and the alerts between briefs are not free. Every few hours the agent reads what is new in your connected apps and decides whether to message you, and that reading counts against your usage limits even if nothing turns out to be urgent.

Large tasks cost more

Asking Duet to find unpaid invoices across QuickBooks and Gmail, or to build a weekly dashboard, involves many steps on its cloud computer. Expect those to use noticeably more than a quick question in chat.

Sharing with chat and Cowork

There is no separate Duet allowance and no published daily task limit. If Duet has been busy all morning, you may hit your limit sooner in Claude chat or Cowork that afternoon, and vice versa.

Claude Duet pricing has one big unknown: Anthropic has not published how many Duet tasks or check-ins fit inside a Pro or Max allowance. Watch your usage in Claude's settings during the first week before deciding whether to upgrade.

Keep Claude Duet usage under control

Because Claude Duet pricing is really about usage, a few habits keep the agent useful without draining your plan.

Narrow the watch list

Only connect the apps you want watched. Every extra inbox or channel is more to read at each check-in. The connectors guide helps you choose.

Batch requests

One message asking for three related things is usually cheaper than three separate handoffs, because the agent gathers context once. Our prompt library has batched examples.

Pause follow-ups

When a project is done, tell Duet to stop following it. Otherwise it keeps checking threads that no longer matter.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Duet free?

expand_more

Claude Duet pricing adds nothing to your bill: it has no separate price, but you need a paid Claude Pro or Max plan to be eligible, and Duet uses that plan's usage limits.

Does Claude Duet cost extra on top of Claude Pro?

expand_more

No. During the research preview there is no added charge for Claude Duet on Pro.

Will Claude Duet use up my Claude limits?

expand_more

It can. Claude Duet shares your plan's limits with chat and Cowork, and background checks and large tasks use more than a typical chat.

Is Claude Duet worth upgrading to Max for?

expand_more

Only if you already hit Pro limits or plan heavy background work. Try Duet on Pro for a week first and watch your usage.

Will Claude Duet pricing change after the preview?

expand_more

Anthropic has not said. Current Claude Duet pricing terms apply to the research preview only, so treat them as temporary.

Is there a Claude Duet free trial?

expand_more

There is no trial for free accounts. If you are on Pro or Max and get an invite, Duet is effectively included at no extra cost.

Do Claude Duet background checks cost usage?

expand_more

Yes. Anthropic says background checks count toward your plan limits.

Can I set a Claude Duet usage cap?

expand_more

Anthropic has not announced a Duet-specific cap. You can reduce usage by connecting fewer apps and stopping follow-ups you no longer need.
