What's in the brief

A few ranked items, what Duet already prepared, and links to sources.

Alerts during the day

Check-ins every few hours; a message only when something needs you.

Tuning

Plain-language feedback on what to raise, skip and never touch.

Claude Duet morning brief notification: Morning, Nicole! For today: Health permit. Hiring decisions. Northfield renewal.

The morning brief is the feature that makes Claude Duet feel different from every other Claude product. Each morning, before you open anything, the agent sends a short message ranking the few things across your connected apps that actually need you today, along with what it has already prepared for each one.

This guide explains what the Claude Duet morning brief contains, how the alerts between briefs work, how to tune the brief so it stops flagging noise, and how to check it against its sources so you never act on a confident mistake.

What the Claude Duet morning brief contains

Anthropic describes the Claude Duet morning brief simply: it summarizes what needs your attention and drafts next steps. Press coverage adds that it is short, covers the most important items across your connected apps, and ranks them. In the launch video it arrives as a push notification that reads like a text from a capable assistant:

From the launch video

"Morning, Nicole! For today: Health permit. Hiring decisions. Northfield renewal."

Ranked items

Three items, not thirty unread emails. The value of the brief is in what it leaves out. Items are ordered by how much they need you today, which is a judgment call the agent makes from your email, calendar and other connected apps.

Prepared drafts

Each item comes with work already done where possible: a reply drafted, a form filled, a meeting time proposed. In the video, the health-permit item comes with a completed application waiting for review and payment. You approve, edit or decline; nothing is sent or paid without you.

Source links

Items point back to the emails, threads or records they came from, so you can check the reasoning. That matters more than it sounds; see the section on checking sources below.

Claude Duet alerts between briefs

The morning brief is the scheduled touchpoint. The rest of the day runs on check-ins.

Every few hours

Duet checks your connected accounts every few hours. If something new needs you, it sends an alert; if not, you hear nothing until tomorrow's brief. Updates on tasks you handed off arrive in the same thread when they finish.

Only when it matters

Anthropic's pitch is that the agent "comes to you with what needs your attention", which means it is supposed to stay quiet most of the time. If your phone buzzes all day, the brief needs tuning, not more checking.

No guaranteed timing

There is no promised alert time. Anthropic lists missing something that arrives between check-ins as a known preview limitation, so anything that must be handled within minutes still needs another alarm. Our troubleshooting guide covers missed alerts.

Tune the Claude Duet morning brief

There is no settings screen full of toggles for the brief. You shape the Claude Duet morning brief by talking to it in the thread, and it carries that into tomorrow's ranking through your Claude memory.

Say what to skip

Low-value items are the fastest thing to fix. A "skip if" rule removes a whole category at once.

"In my morning brief, skip newsletters, receipts and automated notifications unless a payment failed."

Name priority people

Tell Duet whose messages always outrank everything else, and which projects are in a critical week.

"Anything from our accountant or from the Northfield landlord goes to the top. This week the Chicago opening is the priority."

Ask for a status split

A useful pattern from early guides is to ask the brief to separate items that are ready for your review, already approved, and completed, and to leave anything it cannot confirm marked as unresolved.

"Group my brief into: needs my decision, ready for review, done. If you are not sure something is resolved, say so."

More brief prompts are in the Claude Duet prompts library, and the setup tutorial has a first-week tuning plan.

Check the Claude Duet brief against sources

The brief is a summary written by an agent that can misread a thread. Anthropic says so itself. A good habit, especially in the first weeks, is to spot-check it.

Open the references

For anything you are about to act on, open the source and confirm the brief got the facts right: the date, the amount, who is waiting on whom.

Treat gaps as unknown

If an app failed to load or a thread was not read, the right reading is "unknown", not "nothing to report". Be wary of a brief that says everything is ready when a project still needs final approval from someone else.

If a date or fact changes after the morning brief, ask Duet for a fresh read of that thread. It may otherwise keep working from what it saw at the last check-in.

Morning brief vs a daily dashboard

The launch video shows a second daily artifact alongside the brief: a dashboard that refreshes at 5:30 every morning, pulling from point of sale, the online store, CRM, support, payroll and the bank. The two do different jobs.

expand_more

The apps connected to your Claude account, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Notion or QuickBooks. See the connectors list.
